Cynthia Basinet, known by her friends and family simply as C., is an American model, singer, musician and actress whose music gained international success through the internet, bypassing the traditional music industry channels. After a successful career as an international model, Cynthia turned to acting and singing. She created a media sensation with the tremendous success of her version of "Santa Baby" at the turn of the millennium, which has been downloaded millions of times. Cynthia Basinet uses her music to help raise awareness about social issues that are important to her. In May and June 2001 she sang for refugees in the western Sahara desert to help bring their plight to the public's attention. She has also been involved in the Adopt-A-Minefield campaign. For her dedication to humanitarian efforts, Cynthia Basinet was nominated for the 2005 Nobel Peace Prize as part of the 1000 Women for the Nobel Peace Prize project.
