Fridtjof Nansen was a Norwegian diplomat, explorer and scientist who received the 1922 Nobel Peace Prize for his humanitarian work with refugees, after World War 1 as High Commissioner of the League of Nations. The Nansen Refugee Award formerly is given each year to a person or group for outstanding services in supporting refugee causes by the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees.
